Recreation Director
City of Mount Zion, Georgia
Salary Range: $43,000 – $52,000 Annually
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Department: Parks & Recreation
Reports To: Mayor and City Council
Position Summary
The City of Mount Zion is seeking an energetic, organized, and community-focused Recreation Director to lead and oversee all recreation programs, athletic leagues, special events, facilities, and park operations. The Recreation Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing recreational opportunities that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages while ensuring efficient operation of the department. Recreation directors commonly oversee programs, budgets, facilities, staff, and community events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, organize, and supervise youth and adult recreation programs.
• Oversee athletic leagues including football, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, softball, and special events.
• Coordinate scheduling and use of parks, athletic fields, gymnasiums, and recreation facilities.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets and expenditures.
• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time, seasonal, and volunteer staff.
• Work closely with coaches, officials, volunteers, and community organizations.
• Coordinate tournaments, community events, festivals, and recreational activities.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, registrations, and program statistics.
• Attend evening and weekend activities as required. Recreation leadership roles commonly involve oversight of programming, facilities, staff, budgeting, and community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in recreation, athletics, event management, or related field.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of youth athletics and recreation programming.
• Budget management and financial oversight.
• Excellent communication and public relations skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously.
• Proficiency with computer software and online registration systems.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, elected officials, and the public.
